Holding Authors Accountable

A platform exposing unpaid article publication charges.

About Us

At APC defaulters, we spotlight authors who skip paying publication fees after their articles go live.

The Academic Publication Compliance Platform is an independent digital initiative designed to support ethical practices in scholarly publishing. The platform provides a structured environment where journals, editors, and publishers can report cases in which authors fail to fulfill their financial obligations related to Article Processing Charges (APCs) after the publication of their research work.

In recent years, the open-access publishing model has expanded significantly. While this model promotes the accessibility and dissemination of scientific knowledge, it also relies on mutual trust between authors and publishers. In some cases, however, authors withdraw communication or fail to pay the agreed publication charges after their work has been published. Such practices create financial and operational challenges for journals and editorial offices.

How the Platform Works

  1. Editors or publishers submit a report regarding unpaid publication charges.

  2. The platform reviews and documents the submitted information.

  3. Authors are given an opportunity to respond or clarify the issue.

  4. Cases are categorized based on their status such as under review, resolved, or verified.
